Typical symptoms are bleeding gums after eating or brushing, bad breath, teeth that are sensitive to heat or cold, as well as dryness, swelling and redness of the mouth. This is caused by food intake: food residues and bacteria stick to the teeth, which solidify into plaque. If this plaque is not sufficiently removed by brushing, tartar forms.<br \/>\nThe nearby gums become easily inflamed as a result. So-called gingivitis is still easy to treat and is the first stage of gum disease.
